Aspiring Medics: Developing the Doctors of Tomorrow
Posted on 23rd April 2026

April saw the return of the Lincolnshire Talent Academy’s flagship Aspiring Medics event. Year 12 students aged 16–17 from across Lincolnshire successfully secured a place at this popular programme, delivered at both Pilgrim Hospital, Boston and Lincoln County Hospital.
Doctors from the United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Undergraduate Medical Education Department volunteered their time to support the event. They shared their career experiences, delivered engaging presentations, and facilitated hands-on clinical skills workshops focused on the essential knowledge and skills required for a career in medicine.
Session highlights included:
- Presentations on:
- Confidentiality, Patients’ Rights and Professionalism
- Ethics
- Clinical Skills Workshops covering:
- Clinical observations
- Suturing
- Venepuncture
The event was extremely well received by attendees:
“I always had an interest in medicine, and this consolidated that medicine is something I want to continue with in the future. I took away more knowledge about how patients are treated with dignity and the morals that align with it. Definitely recommend it for the clinical skills too, good taster.” – anonymous attendee
“Found out about the event when looking at the NHS Talent Academy website for work experience. First clinical skills exposure has made me more excited for a career in medicine. I would definitely recommend this day to others” – anonymous attendee
“Great – Doctors and staff were so helpful. Very interesting, they all seemed passionate about their job.” – anonymous attendee
