T Levels Week 2026: Developing Our Future Workforce, One Placement at a Time
Posted on 19th October 2026
As we celebrate T Levels Week, we want to take the opportunity to showcase the invaluable contribution that T Level students make across our services and explain why supporting placements is such an important part of developing the future NHS workforce.
What Are T Levels?
T Levels are a two-year qualification for 16 to 19-year-olds that combine classroom learning with a substantial industry placement. For Health students, this means gaining real-world experience alongside healthcare professionals while developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to begin a rewarding career in the NHS.
Students complete a minimum of 315 hours on placement, giving them a unique opportunity to experience healthcare environments, develop confidence and understand the realities of working within our services.
Why Do We Offer T Level Placements?
The NHS faces increasing workforce challenges, making it more important than ever to invest in future talent.
T Level placements allow us to:
- Inspire young people to choose careers within health and care.
- Develop local talent and retain future staff within our communities.
- Build a sustainable workforce pipeline.
- Provide meaningful career opportunities for young people interested in healthcare.
- Demonstrate our commitment to education, development and social value.
Every placement allows us to influence the future of healthcare by showing students what it truly means to care for patients, families and communities.

“Every time we welcome a T Level student into our service, we invest in the future of healthcare. Today’s learner could become tomorrow’s Clinical Healthcare Support Worker, apprentice, registered professional or healthcare leader. Together, we can inspire careers, develop talent and build the workforce our patients will need for the future.” – David Powell, Employability Programme Manager
