About the Healthcare Support Worker Role
Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) are essential members of your NHS team, providing hands-on care and support to patients across hospital wards and community settings. You’ll work alongside nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to help patients feel safe, comfortable, and cared for.
You’ll receive full training to:
- Support patients with daily tasks like washing, dressing, and eating
- Take observations such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure
- Help keep wards clean, calm, and organised
- Offer emotional support and a friendly face during difficult times
- Work as part of a team to deliver high-quality care

What you’ll need to join:
- English and Maths skills equivalent to Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE Grade C/Level 4 or above
- Care Certificate (or a commitment to complete it upon joining)
- Relevant experience or a Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care (e.g., NVQ/QCF Level 3)
- Availability: There will be an expectation that, within the first 3 months, staff will need to be able to work a mixture of shifts while they are being trained/inducted. There is a fixed start date of 15th December 2025.
