This fantastic opportunity provides young people age 16 and 17 years old the opportunity to start their career and take their first step on their development journey towards becoming a healthcare professional.

As young people under the age of 18 are not legally permitted to work the required hours of our Healthcare Support workforce, this modified entry programme enables individuals to take their first step onto the career ladder, and to develop their skills and competencies enabling direct progression into the role of Healthcare Support Worker upon reaching adulthood.

Individuals over the age of 18 are required to apply directly for a Healthcare Support Worker position.

The Opportunity
The Healthcare Cadet programme provides the first step onto our Nursing Workforce Development Pathway, offering fully supported training at each stage.

Designed in partnership with the Lincolnshire Talent Academy, the Talent Pool Healthcare Cadet role has been created to support young people under the age of 18 join our workforce. Our Healthcare Cadet Apprenticeship programme is offered as a full-time, fixed term contract of a maximum of 15months, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in accordance with the working hours permitted for young people. The programme offers automatic progression to the role of Healthcare Support Worker upon reaching the age of 18, subject to satisfactory performance and achievement of the Care Certificate for which full training will be provided whilst on the Cadet programme.

During the Healthcare Cadet phase, you will embark on a comprehensive training programme working towards your Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 apprenticeship. Working alongside members of a multi-disciplinary team, you will help provide the highest standards of care to our patients, delivered with dignity, respect and compassion. With opportunities across various wards and operating theatres, each Cadet will be allocated to a specific area for the duration of their programme.

Full on and off-the-job training will be provided throughout the Healthcare Cadet programme, ensuring you have the skills and knowledge to carry out well-defined routine clinical duties like monitoring an individuals conditions (by checking things like blood pressure, temperature or weight), checking on their overall progress, comfort and well-being.

Supervision and support (direct and indirect) will be provided during the apprenticeship, with progression being dependent on the completion of set objectives throughout the programme. This will enable the apprentice to work within the organisation to gain confidence, experience and build a portfolio of evidence for apprenticeship accreditation.

Automatic Progression
Subject to satisfactory performance and achievement of the Care Certificate whilst on the Cadet programme, progression to the post of Healthcare Support Worker will be guaranteed within 3 months of reaching the age of 18. This opportunity will result in a permanent Band 2 position within the Trust following which you will be required to meet the full requirements of the Healthcare Support Worker role, which will include the change to working pattern (working over 7 days and shift patterns).

Following a successful appointment to the role of Healthcare Support Worker, you will be required to continue on your apprenticeship through to successful completion, thereby providing you with the qualification to support further continued progression. Further training and development opportunities along the Nursing Career Pathway will then be made available to you.

Upon reaching the age of 18, all apprentices shall be supported through a guaranteed interview for a permanent Healthcare Support Worker position within the Trust, aiding them to take their next step within the development pathway.
