Estates and facilities staff work across a range of specialisms to maintain the building and estate of NHS sites and care homes.

  • Suitable for staff working as a plumber, carpenter, painter & decorator, building maintenance, grounds person amongst others.

Functional Skills

Required Level 1 English and Maths
(unless prior certificate held e.g. GCSE grades D -E or O-Level)


Employee Rights

All apprentices will undertake a unit of study focused on employee rights and responsibilities.


Core Units

Plumbing – Units may include

  • Understanding how to communicate with others in building services engineering
  • Understanding how to apply environmental protection measures in building services engineering
  • Understand how to apply scientific principles in MES
  • Understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering

Carpentry – Units may include

  • Confirming the Occupational Method of Work in the Workplace
  • Erecting Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace
  • Installing Frames and Linings in the Workplace

Painting and Decorating – Units may include

  • Apply paint systems by brush and roller
  • Erect and Dismantle Access/Working Platforms
  • Hang standard wallcoverings
  • Produce basic brush graining and marbling effects

.

Horticulture – Units may include

  • Levelling and preparing sites for landscaping
  • Preparing ground for seeding and planting
  • Use and maintain non-powered tools and equipment
